Course Content:
NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Travel Services
This qualification is a technical certificate that will suit candidates who are looking to work for airlines, travel agencies and tour operators in the UK or abroad. For example, as an overseas representative, a travel consultant, or airport check-in staff. Core units include:
- Worldwide Travel and Tourism Destinations
- Special Interest Holidays and Independant Travel
Spanish – AQA Entry Level 3
This is an introductory programme for students who are new to the language. you will study basic topics associated with everyday life and travel. Many employers within the tourism industry select employees who hold a qualification in a modern foreign language.
In addition to the core units, you will be able to select a pathway that truly reflects your specialist vocational interest in the industry.
Pathway 1:
NCFE Level 2 Introduction to Cabin Crew
This qualification is designed for learners who would like to work as a cabin crew member. NCFE has an agreement by which all learners that successfully achieve this qualification, and meet all standards, will receive a guaranteed interview with the airlines Monarch and BMI.
Pathway 2:
NCFE Level 2 Award for Resort Representatives
This qualification is ideal for those who are new to the industry, or who wish to gain recognition for previous experience, or those in employment and looking for a career change. It is endorsed by Thomas Cook, who will guarantee interviews to students that have successfully completed the course and have demonstrated excellent communication and learning skills at the company’s pre-screening test.
BTEC Edexcel Customer Service Level 2
This qualification will give you the skills to effectively communicate with customers at a variety of levels within the travel and tourism sector.
Whichever pathway you decide to take, you be required to undertake a Functional Skills qualification in either English, maths or ICT.
You may also have the opportunity to achieve qualifications in first aid and food hygiene.
Entry Requirements:
Four GCSEs at grade C and above, including English Language, or a BTEC Diploma Level 2 with a Functional Skill. A good reference from your school or a previous teacher will also be required.
Assessment:
This will include practical and written assignments, as well as presentations.
Career Opportunities:
These are several sectors offering career opportunities within the tourism industry, including travel agents, tour operators, hotels, transport (airports and airlinesm and tourist information services.
Course Progression:
Students could progress to higher education courses within leisure, hospitality or business, including the BA (Hons) Management of Hospitality at Colchester Institute.
Training Method:
The programme is delivered through teaching, group and individual activities, research work, presentations, visits and role playing.
