Sport (Development, Coaching and Fitness) BTEC Diploma Level 3

Course Description:
This course will provide the opportunity to develop practical vocational skills, knowledge and understanding for work in the expanding area of leisure and recreation. The opportunity may exist for awards and/or experience in related subjects such as the YMCA Assistant Fitness Instructor Award and the National Governing Body Coaching Awards. Additionally, there will be day trips and a work placement. A variety of learning styles are developed. These include formal class learning, group work, presentation and individual tutorials relating to the assignment programme.
In addition students will study at least one functional skill in English, mathematics or ICT as part of their main programme.

In addition, this flexible course also develops the Functional Skills required for a successful career in the sports industry.

Entry Requirements:
Subsidiary Diploma: Normally a mimum of 4 GCSEs (grades A*-C) including English Language and three other science or humanities GCSEs, or a relevant level 2 qualification with a Merit or Distinction. Diploma: Normally a minimum of 4 GCSEs (grades A*-C) including English Language and three other science or humanities GCSEs (two of the four being at grade B or above), or a relevant level 2 qualifaction with a Merit or Distinction. Extended Diploma: Normally a minimum of 5 GCSEs (grades A*-C) including English Language and four other science or humanities GCSEs (two of the five being at grade B or above), or a relevant level 2 qualification with a Distinction.
Career Opportunities:
Trainee supervisory positions in sport and recreation as, for example, lifeguards, coaches, fitness instructors or recreation assistants.
Course Progression:
The full Level 3 qualification enables access to higher education, for example the Foundation Degree in Management of Sport at Colchester Institute or a Bachelors Degree in a related subject at university.
