Course Description:

The fast-expanding leisure and tourism sectors offer a wide spectrum of career opportunities, from travel agencies to holiday reps. This flexible course gives a broad introduction that not only explores the various career pathways but also examines the key skills required to attract and expand the customer base.

Delivery is through a number of assignments supported by class tuition, presentations, lectures and tutorials.

In addition students will study at least one functional skill in English, mathematics or ICT as part of their main programme.

It was the work placement that made me decide that I definitely wanted a career in the travel industry.

Course Content:

Core modules include:

  • Introduction to the Travel and Tourism Industry
  • Travel Destinations and Customer Service

An additional qualification may be achieved:

  • City & Guilds Level 1 Travel Destinations

Entry Requirements:

Normally a minimum of 4 GCSEs (grades D-E) to include English, maths and one other at grade D. A general interest in tourism and the motivation to succeed.

Career Opportunities:

There is a wide range of careers from immediate employment as a junior in a range of travel industry organisations.

Course Progression:

Progression to the College Diploma in Travel Services. This level 3 course comprises a set of recognised qualifications that will enable students to become familiar with the skills required for employment in the travel industry. An NVQ Level 3 in Leisure and Tourism could also be an option.
