Course Description:
The BTEC Diploma in Public Services is designed to equip learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills required for success when moving towards a career in the uniformed services, for example Police, Fire and Rescue Service, Prison Service or Armed Services.
The course allows learners to investigate the uniformed services, what they are and what careers are available to them. Learners will, through the units chosen, find out what people in the different services do in their job roles, how they work and how they interact with each other. They will find out the meaning of multi-agency working.
Units within the course will allow learners to discover, for example, the levels of fitness required for each of the uniformed services e.g. the difference between the Royal Marines and the Police.
This course is delivered through a mixture of lectures, practical activities, outside visits and visiting specialist speakers from the public services. There will also be workshops and tutorials relating to the assignment programme.
In addition students will study at least one functional skill in English, mathematics or ICT as part of their main programme.

Entry Requirements:
Normally a minimum of 4 GCSEs (grade D) including English or a merit on a related Level 1 BTEC course. A general interest in public services and the motivation to succeed.
Career Opportunities:
A wide range of careers in the uniformed public services and related areas.
Course Progression:
This course should contribute to the learner making an informed choice when they take their next steps. It provides a suitable foundation for further study within the sector on qualifications such as the Edexcel Level 3 BTEC Subsidiary Diploma in Public Services.
