Course Description:
Managing Safely is for managers and supervisors in any sector.
This course is designed to get managers up to speed on practical actions to ensure health and safety in their teams. Jargon is kept to a minimum; the emphasis is on what delegates need to know in practice.

Course Content:
Eight Modules:
1. Introducing Managing Safely
- How managers are responsible for their teams
- Why safety has to be managed
2. Assessing risks
- What do ‘risk’ and ‘risk assessment’ actually mean in practice?
- A simple explanation of these terms, with practical exercises
3. Controlling Risks
- Advice on how to focus on the best techniques for controlling the key risks
4. Understanding your responsibilities
- The legal requirements for managers
- How the legal system works
- Introduction to a Health and Safety management system
5. Identifying hazards
- All the main issues that any manager should consider in the workplace
- Including entrances and exits, work traffic, fire, chemicals, electricity, physical and verbal abuse, bullying, stress, noise, housekeeping and the working environment, slips, trips and falls, working at height, computers and manual handling.
6. Investigating accidents and incidents
- Why accidents should be investigated
- Why things go wrong
- How to complete an investigation into an accident or ‘near miss’
7. Measuring Performance
- How to check and measure performance to improve health and safety
- Consideration of the basic performance indicators
- Proactive and reactive measuring
8. Protecting our environment
- An introduction to waste and pollution
- How managers can reduce environmental impacts of their organisation
Each module contains case studies and facts and figures from the real world to support and reinforce the learning objectives. The course also contains checklists and other materials which can be utilised in the workplace after completion of the modules.
