Course Description:

It is a Government priority to ensure that existing and new heating installers are competent to install and maintain energy-efficient domestic heating/hot water systems.  The Energy Efficiency for Domestic Heating qualification has been developed to prepare heating installers for the change in the Building Regulations and to encourage them to have a positive attitude to high efficiency products based on sound knowledge and product confidence.  The Building Regulations 2006 Part L1 are broad based regulations covering the building and 'controlled services' equipment in new and existing domestic properties.

Course Objectives/Key Benefits:

On completion delegates will have a greater understanding of the requirements of Part L1.

Who the Course is Aimed at:

The qualification is relevant to those people who undertake individual customer-based roles and who are responsible for advising on designing and installing energy efficient heating and hot water systems.  It may also be relevant to those people who specify the installation and maintenance of the heating/hot water system and to those who provide training and developement for installers and specifiers.

Course Content:

  • Understanding climate change and its effect on the environment
  • Identifying Government commitments to energy efficiency
  • Review of modern heating systems and controls

Entry Requirements:

Appropriate operative level Building Service Engineering (City and Guilds) at advanced craft or NVQ Level 3 equivalent Or suitable technician level Building Service Engineering such as BTEC/Edexcel, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent Or accreditation and recognition of skills through an appropriate industry registration scheme e.g. Gas Safe - ACS, OFTEC-105E, UKAS Or at least two years industry experience in the installation of domestic heating and hot water systems, currently un-certified skills equivalent to NVQ Level 3 Or at least two years industry experience in the provision of design and advice services for domestic heating and hot water systems at NVQ Level 3 or equivalent.
