BTEC National Certificates/Diplomas
What are BTEC National Certificates/ Diplomas?
National Certificates/Diplomas are level 3 qualifications for students who wish to prepare for a career in a specific occupational area and/or progress to higher education. They have the same academic level as A Levels but offer greater opportunity for specific hands-on, work-related activity. National Diplomas are equivalent to three full A Levels and National Certificates are equivalent to two A Levels.
What is a BTEC National Certificate/Diploma programme?
Both Certificate and Diploma programmes normally contain a short compulsory work experience component where you can gain practical experience of the subjects you are studying.
College-based study consists of a combination of theory and practical activities related to the world of work. Much of the course content develops your ability to solve real problems. You will also be assisted to improve your IT, numeracy and communication skills through a programme of key skills. However, this kind of work is tailored to the ability of each individual student and you will not be asked to study at a higher level than you are qualified to undertake. Subjects are assessed through a mixture of coursework and end of unit examinations.
