This includes hip hop, rock, UK urban music, dance and many other subgenres linked to digitally produced music.

The course offers students a broad introduction into the world of a music producer/artist.

This is predominantly a practical course with most work being completed in sessions. However, it is useful for students to have software at home to practice production techniques. If a student also plays an instrument (whether a traditional instrument such as guitar and keyboard or more modern instruments like turntable or voice) this is an advantage but not a necessity.

In addition, students will study at least one Functional Skill in English, maths or ICT as part of their main programme.

Units include:

  • Studio Recording
  • Remixing and Sampling
  • Creative Production
  • Music Business and Promotion

Entry Requirements:

Normally a minimum of 3 GCSEs (grades A* to D) or level 1 diploma in a related subject. All applicants will be interviewed and must have some prior experience of either music or music technology.

Career Opportunities:

The music industry is one of this country’s major employers and opportunities for work in this field extend much further than performing. This course is designed to lead towards work in the studio, composition, retail and management sides of the industry.
