Course Description:

This is a course for those who have a passion for Performing Arts and are considering a career in theatre or drama and for those wishing to progress onto a Degree course. Facilities include a fully air conditioned dance studio with a sprung dance floor, rehearsal rooms, drama studio, and our main hall with industry standard stage lighting and sound system.

In addition, students will study at least one Functional Skill in English, maths or ICT as part of their main programme.

Course Content:

Units will include:

  • Performance Workshop
  • Performing Arts Business
  • Historical Context of Performance
  • Principles of Acting
  • Developing Physical Theatre
  • Singing Skills for Actors and Dancers
  • Drama Improvisation.

Entry Requirements:

Normally a minimum of 5 GCSEs (grades A* - C) including English or a level 2 qualification at merit or distinction in a related subject. Each applicant will be given an interview/audition where they must also demonstrate practical ability, academic expertise and the necessary commitment, motivation and aptitude to succeed.

Career Opportunities:

The course prepares you for work in the performing arts industry. It might lead to work as a performer as well as jobs related to performance such as arts administration, teaching, choreography or stage management.

Course Progression:

The course prepares you for entrance to higher education courses in drama and theatre including the Foundation degree or BA (Hons) Creative Performance (Acting) at Colchester Institute. Many students progress to universities and drama schools including University of Essex, LAMDA, Mountview, Goldsmiths, LIPA and LSMT.
