Course Description:
This is a course for those who have a passion for music and music technology and are considering a career in the music industry. Music students contribute to College life in a variety of ways and you will be expected to take part in productions as a sound engineer. Sessions include group and individual work, practical workshops for music production, written assignments and discussions; enrichment activities such as visits to the Live Music and Sound Expo events. Facilities include an industry standard music studio and recording suite.
In addition, students will study at least one Functional Skill in English, maths or ICT as part of their main programme.

- Professional Development in the Music Industry
- Planning and Creating a Musical Product
- Exploring Musical Composition
- Working as a Musical Ensemble
- Producing a Musical Recording
- Exploring computer systems used by musicians
Entry Requirements:
Normally a minimum of 3 GCSEs (grades A* to D) or level 1 diploma in a related subject (Merit). All applicants will be auditioned. Candidates will be expected to perform on one instrument (which can include voice) and to convince the interviewers that they have sufficient ability to succeed on the course.
Career Opportunities:
The music industry is one of this country’s major employers and opportunities for work in this field extend much further than performing. This course is designed to lead towards work in the studio, composition, retail and management sides of the industry.
Course Progression:
After completing the course, you can progress to the Extended Diploma in Music Technology or seek employment in the music industry.
