Course Description:

This one year course aims to introduce learners to a diverse and exciting range of disciplines within the creative media sector. This could mean anything from working on producing advertising campaigns for blockbuster movies to animating short films or creating a new magazine for young people.

You will have the opportunity to experience a broad range of practical production briefs alongside more developmental, research based study. Through using visual language to stimulate your ideas and ultimately to realise them, you can then develop the skills necessary for working within this exciting and constantly developing industry.

This course is taught using a mixture of practical studio activities, seminars, tutorials, lectures and personal study.

In addition students will study at least one functional skill in English, mathematics or ICT as part of their main programme.

Entry Requirements:

Normally a minimum of 3 GCSEs (grades A*-D) or Level 1 Diploma in a related subject. Interview with portfolio of art work and ability to communicate ideas orally as well as visually.

Career Opportunities:

There is potential for this qualification to prepare learners for employment in the appropriate vocational sector. It may be suitable for those who have already decided they wish to enter a particular specialist area of media related work. Possible job occupations include Advertising/Animation/Computer Games Design/Web Design/ Researcher/Photographer/Multimedia Design.

Course Progression:

Successful students are eligible to apply and progress to a BTEC level 3 Extended Diploma in a particular specialist subject area. These include Digital Graphics, Photography, Video Production and Graphic Design.
