Course Description:
The course is ideal for those who want to develop front of house supervisory skills combined with practical work. It covers a wide range of topics, including Interpersonal Skills, Sales, Team Development and Health and Safety. Specialist subjects will develop supervisory skills within the training restaurants/receptions operated by the Centre. This programme leads to a City & Guilds NVQ Level 3 qualification.
Students also have the opportunity to undertake the BIIAB Personal Licence Certificate.
Theory and practical work centres around the College’s public restaurants on the Colchester Campus. However, evidence may take place in an agreed workplace. Although the course is predominantly practical, there is a significant amount of assignment work throughout the year which provides evidence for your portfolio. Assessments are continuous throughout the year. Functional skills are also incorporated within the course structure.
In addition, students will study at least one Functional Skill in English, maths or ICT as part of their main programme.
Course Content:
The course comprises of eight units, five core including:
- Team Leadership
- Customer Service
- Health and Safety
Students then select up to five optional units, which relate to their chosen area of supervision. Approximately 80% of the course is practical and 20% theory.
Entry Requirements:
Students should have completed all the compulsory units on the NVQ Level 2 programme in Front Office or Food Service or have had previous experience within the hospitality and catering industry. Applicants will be assessed individually by interview.
Career Opportunities:
Employment in a supervisory capacity within the range of establishments in the catering, hospitality and leisure industries.
Course Progression:
Students could progress to a Foundation degree. Subject to interview.
