Course Description:

This course is ideal for those wishing to work in the hospitality or related industries in a supervisory or management position. It covers a wide range of topics enabling you to experience various aspects of the industry and develop knowledge and understanding. As well as learning about your chosen employment area, you will develop the skills required to start a career.
 

The course comprises of approximately eighteen modules, nine in each year which encompass both theory and practical sessions. Practical work revolves around the award-winning public restaurants. With you working in the restaurants, bars, kitchen and coffee shop. Theory sessions inform the practical application with assignment work also centering on practical application where possible.

Teaching styles are varied and include practical activities, workshops and investigative work. Visits and activities are arranged to increase knowledge and experience of the industry.
 

Assessment is continuous throughout the year using assignments and where possible observations.

The course suited my personality much more than going on to study for A levels. I wanted to take a course that followed a more practical aspect, rather than being just classroom and exam based.

Entry Requirements:

Normally a minimum of 4 GCSEs (grades A*-C) including English and maths, BTEC Diploma or an NVQ Level 2 in a related subject and/or appropriate work experience.

Career Opportunities:

Employment in supervisory or trainee management positions in hotels, catering and related industries.

Course Progression:

The course can enable progression into higher education, for example HNC/HND Level 4 and 5, Foundation and Honours degree programmes. The BTEC Diploma in Hospitality is a 180 credit qualification broadly equivalent to three A Levels.
