Skills to Succeed
Course Description:
The Foundation Learning Skills to Succeed course is a free learning programme aimed at 16-18 year olds who are not in training or employment and wish to gain qualifications in maths, English and ICT from entry level to level 2.
The course also focuses on career planning and helps with Apprenticeship applications, job search and applying for further training or employment giving students the opportunity to achieve qualifications in Employability Skills, Health and Safety and First Aid. Enrichment activities are also included in the programme to develop confidence and social skills.
The course runs for 16 hours over 17 weeks and is delivered at Braintree, Dovercourt, Clacton and Colchester. As the course is roll on roll off students can start at any point throughout the year.
Course Content:
- Initial Assessment
- Individually tailored timetable
- Functional Skills in maths, English and ICT.
- City & Guilds Certificate in Employability and Personal Development.
- BSC Level 1 Health and Safety
- First Aid Training
- Career planning, Job Search, Confidence Building, Health Awareness and involvement with many outside agencies such as The Youth Service and Prince’s Trust
Entry Requirements:
16-18 year olds not in education, employment or training.

Progression routes for some of our students have been •Full time courses / Apprenticeships in Business and Administration, Public Services, Carpentry, Construction, Health and Social Care, Childcare, Motor Vehicle , Diploma in Music, Health and Beauty, Painting and Decorating, Customer Care and Art and Design, Travel & Tourism, Sport & Recreation • Employment in the construction industry , retail and care homes •Prince’s Trust
