Course Description:
This programme is designed for candidates wishing to enter into the mechanical repair and servicing side of the motorcycle industry. It is aimed primarily at those who do not work within the industry and wish to gain formal qualifications through a full-time programme of study.
The programme will provide the basic theoretical knowledge and practical skills required by potential technicians. Candidates successfully completing all units of study will have mastered the basic repair skills needed for work on various motorcycle systems and have an understanding of the related technology. Assessment is based on external examinations with internal assessment of practical ability.
Practical skills and knowledge are delivered by demonstration and practical assignments in the workshop. Theoretical knowledge is delivered by classroom tuition, guided assignments, Information Learning Technology (ILT), and personal study.
In addition students will study Functional Skills in English, mathematics and ICT as part of their main programme.
This course is a foundation learning programme and so in addition to the vocational qualification and Functional Skills, a work skills qualification or unit will be undertaken too.

Entry Requirements:
Normally a minimum of 4 GCSEs (grades A*-D) including English, maths and science, satisfactory references and completion of a basic skills assessment. Candidates must also have a keen interest in motorcycle repair. Satisfactory completion of the four day 'Motor Vehicle Engineering Preview' course is required, details of which will be given at interview.
Career Opportunities:
A career in the motorcycle industry, generally at either craft or technician level.
Course Progression:
Further study and training to level 2. Progression to an Apprenticeship programme is also an option.
