Course Description:

This course has been designed to enhance the candidates Vehicle Body Repair/Re-finishing skills, knowledge and understanding to level 2.

The vehicle body repair part of the programme will provide continued theory and practice relating to workshop practices and safety, pre-repair inspection and evaluation, removal of corrosion, dent repair, panel removal and replacement, welding techniques, GRP fabrication and repair, chassis alignment and thermo-plastic welding.

The vehicle re-finishing part of the programme includes paint preparation, chip repair techniques, spraying equipment set­up, matching paintwork, paint application, burnishing and polishing, identification and rectification of surface defects and cleaning and valeting.

Practical work will be undertaken in the workshops on our own vehicles, commercial projects and students’ own vehicles as appropriate.

In addition students will study at least one functional skill in English, mathematics or ICT as part of their main programme.

Successful completion of Motor Vehicle Service and Repair / body Repair Level 1 and consent from the progression review board to continue.
