Course Description:

The programme offers compulsory education to students in their final year (year 11). Attendance is full-time and matches the pattern of the school year. Students are offered a mixture of formal and informal education in a variety of settings. They will have the opportunity where appropriate to access specific vocational training and will participate in extended work-based training.

All applicants to the programme must have the approval of the LEA (information and guidance on this procedure must be sought from the Area Education Office) or from schools.

All learners will complete an initial six week assessment programme from September to half-term.

In addition, students will study at least one Functional Skill in English, maths or ICT as part of their main programme.

This course is a foundation learning programme and so in addition to the vocational qualification and functional skills, a work skills qualification will be undertaken too.

I’ve gained Functional Skills in maths, English and ICT and am now about to start the BTEC Diploma in Health and Social Care.

Course Content:

The course offers Functional skills, personal development and work based learning as part of a Foundation Learning Programme.

Learners will have the opportunity to follow personalised learning programmes within Foundation Learning.

Learners also have the opportunity to work towards the Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Award.

Entry Requirements:

Approval from the local Education Authority (LEA). Students need to demonstrate a commitment to working towards agreed outcomes and successfully complete a taster module.

Career Opportunities:

Full-time employment.

Course Progression:

Students in previous years have progressed to further education programmes, employment and Apprenticeships.
