Lecturer, Computing

Jayne Knowles

Peter Wilkinson, from Ipswich, is the Curriculum Manager for Higher Education in the Centre for Computing and Administration, and lectures in computer networking on the BSc (Hons) Computing programmes.

Peter has been a lecturer at the College for six years but prior to this he spent over 20 years working in industry. After studying as a mature student for a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science, Peter worked as a software programmer, where he was head hunted by a large American company to run their software department in Chicago. Peter worked in the US for four years where he was quickly made Senior Vice-President of this company.

Peter is a keen sailor and spends his free time sailing his yacht on the east coast and updating his website yourboatpix.com, which has recently been featured in Yachting Monthly magazine.

Due to Peter’s expertise, he worked face-to-face with clients devising networking solutions, meaning he would travel up to 65,000 miles, worldwide, a year. This extensive travelling, and Peter’s desire to pass on his knowledge, led him to Colchester Institute, where he has taught for six years.

Peter is currently trying to master the unicycle, which he was bought by his children for Christmas!
