Jayne Knowles

Jayne Knowles is a Curriculum Manager for Higher Education with the Centre for Art, Design and Media; she lectures in three dimensional design and craft and has worked at Colchester Institute for 14 years.

Jayne completed her BA (Hons) in Crafts in 1990, at what is now Manchester Metropolitan University, specialising in metal and textiles. She then went on to complete her Master of Arts in Book Arts, in 2002, at Camberwell College of Arts.

With a studio at Cuckoo Farm Studios in Colchester, Jayne is a successful artist and sells her intricate metal designs and artwork in galleries around the UK.

She has also sold her work at the prestigious Chelsea Craft Fair, where around 1,000 traders apply through the Craft Council for just 200 places. Jayne’s expertly designed clocks, candle holders and other metal work has also been sold to London department store, Liberty, and The Conran Shop.

In addition to her work at the College and her own artworks, Jayne also runs a business with her partner, taking on bigger design projects, based around interactive educational initiatives, including creating interactive learning tools and outdoor play equipment. They have completed work for the National Maritime Museum, Colchester Borough Council, Ipswich Museum, Lowestoft High Street and firstsite:newsite in Colchester.
